A group photo of the six BOE members who took their Oath of Office

Six members were sworn into the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education during the Dec. 9 meeting. One by one, members took their Oath of Office and shared their commitment to serving in the best interest of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. A reception was held prior to the meeting at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center to welcome the Board and its new members who include:

  • Charlitta Hatch, District 1
  • Shamaiye Haynes, District 2
  • Cynthia Stone, District 5
  • Anna London, District 6

Stephanie Sneed, District 4, and Gregory “Dee” Rankin, District 3, were reelected by voters in November and will continue to serve in their leadership positions as Chair (Sneed) and Vice Chair (Rankin) as voted on during Tuesday night’s meeting. Hatch, Haynes, London, Rankin, Sneed and Stone join At-Large members Liz Monterrey Duvall, Lenora Shipp and Monty Witherspoon.

“The Board of Education welcomes all new board members who each bring a unique and important perspective to the board,” said Sneed. “And although they each bring unique personal and professional experiences to their new role, they all share one common belief — that all students deserve an exceptional education and that CMS is here to deliver on that promise. The Board looks forward to doing this important work with our new colleagues.”
